King Saud Medical City launches new Robot Doctor program

The intensive care unit at King Saud Medical City (KSMC) launched a new program specialized in providing long distance telemedicine treatment for patients in the field of critical care. The newly introduced robot doctor is considered to be a very modern technology in clinical medicine where it transmits medical information through interactive visual and audio platform.

Further, the Head of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Department at KSMC, Dr. Abdulrahman Alharthi, said that this technology is set to enable ICU doctors to monitor and treat patients with critical cases remotely through an Internet connection based on the central control unit.

In other words, the robot doctor can take a patient’s pulse, scan vital signs, and take images.

Subsequently, the robot would send all the necessary information to the doctor who can advise medical staff on potentially life-saving actions. Additionally, the robot would also discuss the condition of the patient, provide a treatment plan, and intervenes when necessary depending on the health status of the patient.

Dr. Haitham Alfalah, chief executive officer at KSMC, seeks through this program to increase the efficiency of the healthcare services provided to ICU patients which in turn boosts care.
