Job Description

Main duties and responsibilities:
  • To provide high-standard care to patients with endocrine disorders and its sequelae in the Division of Endocrinology, within the Department of Medicine
  • To provide inpatient care for the endocrinology patients admitted to the hospital under his/her name. This inpatient care would involve daily rounds on all inpatients. Part of the inpatient care would also relate to the supervision of the medical residents rotating in Endocrinology and the Endocrinology fellows. The consultant is also expected to be adherent to the organizational, departmental, and divisional regulations which pertain to inpatient care
  • To participate in the delivery of health care to all Endocrinology patients in the ambulatory care setting under his/her name. This participation would include caring for patients attending the regular Endocrinology ambulatory services and for patients attending the Metabolic Center and the Short Stay Unit.
  • To provide, consultation service to other divisions within the Department, and other departments within the institution/organization during the regular working and the on-call hours. The educational component of this consultation services to the staff in other services should also be valued during daily work
  • To perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic interventions and procedures to the endocrine patients for which he/she is granted specific privileges based on his/her training, qualifications and experience according to the specific privileging conditions approved by the Department and the organization.
  • To participate in the on-call coverage of the Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU) and the Endocrinology service in accordance with the rules and regulations of the CTU, the Division of Endocrinology and the Department of Medicine.
  • To attend all the clinical, educational, and patient welfare meetings of the Division of Endocrinology as established by the division. Attendance of the general activities of the Department of Medicine is also an important component of the job of the consultant in Endocrinology.
  • To participate in scientific research relevant to Endocrinology, contribute into the Division of Endocrinology and Department of Medicine educational activities and post-graduate training programs, and to serve in committees as directed by the Head, Division of Endocrinology, Department Chairman or the Executive Management of the organization.
  • To optimally utilize resources, show continuous evidence of self-development and participate in Quality Improvement program of the Division of Endocrinology and the Department of Medicine.
  • To adhere to all rules and regulations of the Division, the Department, and the organization and to comply with all the APPs and IPPs
  • To perform other relevant duties and tasks as directed by the Head of Endocrinology or the Chairman of the Department of Medicine.
  • To comply with all the professional and ethical standards and express adherence to the Medical Staff By­laws of the organization.
  • To show the expected respect, at all times, to patients, their families, colleagues, subordinates and all other members of the healthcare team.
  • To provide close supervision of the clinical performance of subordinates and to provide them with a role model especially those in training.

Education

Graduation from a medical school recognized by Saudi Commission for
Health Specialities and NGHA. Successful completion of a structured accredited Residency Training in General Medicine/Subspecialty Fellowship Program in Endocrinology acceptable to the NGHA. Certification by the appropriate Specialty Board approved by the Saudi Council of Health Specialties and acceptable to the NGHA.

Work Experience

Total experience (training and post-training) should be equal to, or more than
seven (7) years. Should have a minimum of two (2) years experience in a tertiary care center in the endocrine/metabolic disorders after certification. Of this, at least two years experience in Endocrinology abroad in a program acceptable to the NGHS is required (E). Superior or above average performance in areas of patient care and teaching/training activities (P). Productivity in medical research merits strong consideration. Publications in peer reviewed journals are highly desirable (P).
