Job Description

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide care for patients admitted to the hospital under the Department of Pediatrics. The Assistant Consultant me be required to supervise or cover the day to day duties of the team’s Senior Resident. He/She may also be required to cover subspecialties in the event that resident coverage is deficient for whatever reason.
  • To participate I on-call coverage in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Division of General Pediatrics and the Department of Pediatrics, accepting the inconveniences associated with patients’ need during the on-call coverage.
  • To provide consultation services to other divisions within the Department and other departments within the organization during the regular work and on-call hours according to the Department’s Policies and Procedures and discuss the management with General Pediatrics Consultant on duty.
  • In the event that the Assistant Consultant is pursuing a subspecialty career, assignment may be made to a unit e.g. PICU, NICU, ECC or the subspecialty chosen. The clinical commitment in that case will be dictated by the Rules and Regulation of the unit or subspecialty.
  • To perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic interventions and procedures for which he/she has been trained and has specific privileges for.
  • To actively participate in the quality improvement program of the Department of Pediatrics.
  • To provide close supervision of the clinical performance of subordinate and to act as a role model.
  • To take full responsibilities of the Division’s and hospital’s administrative tasks that are assigned. This may include division or hospital standing and ad-hoc committees or representation of the Division on committees and/or activities outside the hospital.
  • To participate in scientific research and contribute to the department’s educational activities and postgraduate training programs as per the Department’s Policies and Procedures.
  • To regularly participate in educational activities in order to acquire new skills and knowledge and to support career advancements.
  • To advocate for the health needs and well-being of children and their families.
  • To adhere to all the rules and regulations of the Division of General Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics, and the organization. Assistant Consultant are expected to familiarize themselves and comply with both the APPs and DPPs.
  • To perform other relevant duties and charges as directed by the Head of the Division of General Pediatrics or the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics.
  • To comply with all professional and ethical standards and express adherence to the Medical Staff By-Laws of the organization.
  • Perform other job related duties.
Job Requirements: 

Education:

Master Degree in MBBS or equivalent. Saudi Board of Pediatrics or equivalent. from an accredited institution – Essential

Experience:

No previous experience required

Training and (re)certification in basic life support

(BLS) and pediatric advances life support (PALS) every 2 years
